Data center standard evolution

In the past two decades, we have seen exponential growth in data centers. Therefore, we can assume that data centers have also evolved to meet business needs. Considering the expansion of the data center market, in the 90's the Uptime Institute’s Tier Classification System for data centers emerged. The Uptime Institute created the tier standard that has been around for over 25 years as an international data center performance standard. The tier standard classifies data centers into four Tiers that are a combination of business functions and criteria defined by maintenance, energy, cooling, and fault capabilities. Besides, a very common mistake by professionals in the IT industry is to qualitatively analyze the Tier of one data center concerning another, for example, this does not mean that a Tier IV data center is better than a Tier III, which actually means it is that these levels classify differences in business operations.
